Drawings overview

Drawings are top-level document items alongside parts and assemblies. They create 2D sheets containing projected views, dimensions, annotations, frames, and title blocks.

Sheets and views

A drawing has a sheet size such as A4, A3, Letter, or Tabloid and an orientation. Views can project a part or assembly as front, top, right, isometric, or auxiliary views. Section, detail, break, and break-out view metadata is represented in the IR.

Dimensions and annotations

Drawing dimensions include linear, radial, diameter, angular, and GD&T-style characteristics. Where possible, dimensions bind back to projected topology so they can resolve again after regeneration. Drawings can also carry balloons, centre marks, centrelines, leader notes, surface finish symbols, datum labels, datum targets, weld symbols, feature-control frames, hole tables, revision tables, and general notes.

Title blocks and exports

Title blocks can use ANSI, ISO, or custom SVG templates with field data. The drawing sheet view exposes DXF and PDF export buttons. DWG is deferred; export DWG through a downstream CAD tool if a recipient requires it.

Treat drawings as generated documentation for the current model, not a second modelling surface. If a dimension reveals the wrong size, edit the part or assembly feature that owns the geometry, regenerate, and then update the drawing annotation if needed.
