AI agent overview

The Kerf assistant works on the same IR as the UI. It can create and edit sketches, features, assemblies, drawings, document context, and guidance rather than mutating a side channel.

What it can do

Ask the assistant to build a part, refactor a feature tree, add holes, create assembly relationships, explain a failure, or prepare drawing views. It can also remember user or document guidance through the /ai/guidance API, which is separate from this end-user docs site.

How to prompt

Give design intent, units, important dimensions, and constraints. Good prompts name the active part or assembly, state what should change, and describe what must stay fixed. If a prompt depends on existing geometry, select the relevant face, edge, feature, part, or mate first so the UI context can accompany the request.

When to include screenshots

Attach a screenshot when the issue is visual: wrong face, missing preview, unclear orientation, bad drawing layout, or a failed model that is easier to see than describe. Screenshots are especially helpful when asking the assistant to diagnose viewport state.

BYO key roadmap

The UI includes budget and model-selection flows, and recovery cards can route users toward BYO-key settings when available. Treat BYO model support as a rollout area: if the current workspace says no BYO model is configured, use the hosted option or settings path shown there.
