- The Public option is the trial. You can use the full editor and the full AI agent on a public document for $0 forever — no card, no time limit. Two ways to power the agent: bring your own OpenAI or Anthropic key (you pay your AI provider directly, we charge $0), or top up pay-as-you-go credits starting at $5. The $10/month subscription unlocks private documents and per-organization metered AI billing once you want your work private.
- How is the AI cost calculated?
- We meter every prompt and every tool call. At the end of the month we sum the **raw provider cost for your usage** — the actual cents Anthropic / OpenAI bills us for the tokens *you* sent and received — and pass that through with a 1% markup. So if your month's prompts and responses cost us $10.00 of Anthropic tokens, your invoice line is $10.10. The 1% is a thin pass-through fee on top of the raw provider cost. Each agent turn shows its per-turn USD cost in the panel; the running monthly total is in your account.
- What stops a runaway agent from blowing up my bill?
- A monthly $ ceiling on the account (default $25 for new signups, change any time). When the ceiling is reached the agent pauses; you can raise it, switch to your own API key, or wait for next month. We also email at 50% / 80% / 100% of the ceiling.
- What does 'bring your own key' do?
- You plug in your own Anthropic or OpenAI key and the metered-AI line item drops to $0. You still pay the $10/month app fee. Your tokens are billed by your AI provider directly, not by us. This is the right setup for serious power users.
- How is the teammate fee calculated?
- $5 per active collaborator per month. Active means 'opened a doc in this organization during the calendar month'. A 10-person company where 3 people actually open kerf in a given month pays $10 (one base subscription) + $5 × 3 = $25. Stale seats cost nothing.
- Can I downgrade or cancel?
- Yes, any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing month; your documents stay accessible (and you can mark them public if you want to keep them readable after the subscription ends).
- Are there any limits on export formats?
- No. STEP, IGES, DXF, PDF — every paying user gets every format. Public-mode users also get every format (the IR is already public-domain). We retired the per-format paywall in 2026-05 because it was a 2010 CAD price-discrimination tactic that didn't match how customers think about value.
